      Designation:-Chief engineerDuties & Responsibilities:• Overhaul in charge of all technical operations on board merchant ship• Managing ship board operations, primarily engineering and maintenance of machineries including human resource management.• Managing ship board operations covering all aspects of day-to-day maintenance activities, long term performance monitoring, field troubleshooting and maintenance of machineries on the ship.• Ensuring that critical safety equipments for ship and personnel are checked and maintained at all times• Budgeting with respect to maintenance requirements and maintaining spares and stores inventory at the most appropriate levels• Provide technical guidance, training and continuous development of engineers at junior level. • Coordinate activities with those of regulatory bodies to ensure repairs and alterations are at minimum cost, consistent with safety.• Evaluates the operation of marine equipments and breakdown causes. Conducts environmental, operational or performance tests on marine machineries and equipment.• Continuous condition monitoring of running machinery of the ship which would involve maintaining engineering log and bell book (orders of changes in speed and direction of ship) of running parameters & then analyses to implement preventive maintenance program to attain the most efficient running conditions with minimum breakdowns.• Ensure compliance at all times with the Health, Safety and environmental procedures .ACHEIVEMENTS:• Been awarded the top performer in the fleet for 2013 and received a bonus for the same• Have been able to considerably and consistently reduce costs associated with fuel consumption on the ships served through efficient management of the power plant.• Have effectively trained Juniors and subordinates on board to be self reliant and progress in their careers Show less
