    • Portland Public Schools

      Mar 2009 - Jun 2009
      Student Intern

Thirty hour internship served with Community Transitional School - a location that serves Portland's houseless student population. Placement as part of Portland State Universities teacher education program, marking the "halfway" point in the program. Part of the purpose of placement is to ensure goodness of fit between the potential educator and the public elementary school environment prior to taking more specialized coursework toward that end. The student acts as an assistant to educators. This internship was unusual due to the nature of the school. Placement was at the special request of the school to the program for a suitable candidate. The school works with very limited budget to meet the needs of a vulnerable population of students hardest hit by economic disparity. Because it cannot be supported in the usual fashion it must operate more as a non-profit day center for young people from grades K-8; meeting goals with only 3 educators on site.Duties included tutoring in math and reading; grading papers; and monitoring recess and lunch activities. • New Earth Philosophical School

      Jun 2021 - now
      Founder

New Earth Philosophical School is a spiritual Transhumanist organization in its start-up phase. Currently working toward 501c3 religious nonprofit status. The main purpose of the organization is to provide high-quality religious education to the public that is contemporary and respects the place of Christianity among other major World Religions. The organization will also serve the traditional purposes of the Church and views itself as a continuation of rather than a departure from the work of the Early Church in creating positive, self-directed cultural communities that enrich the lives of citizens. The founder has recognized the direction of the Church in America on the basis of statistics ongoing for three generations. Without real action to meet these difficulties we will be losing houses of worship in local communities.New Earth will use the same church planting model that our forefathers used to build the infrastructure of the church that we have latterly abandoned. All effort will be made to encourage local bodies of the Church to use government and other grant opportunities available to 501c3 nonprofits to the best effect to address community issues at the local level. If the church building is empty it is a wasted opportunity. We want real, active, and meaningful community to develop at the local level. We encourage and support Ladies' Ministries and their efforts. Show less
