      Worked on:Activity and Stability of 6B, a thermostable mutant of Bacillus Subtilis lipase in PolarName of the Guide : Dr. N. Madhusudhana RaoTime Period : 9 weeksProject Description: Lipases function in aqueous solutions but their substrates are nonpolar andform emulsions in water. Hence there are several advantages of conducting lipase enzymaticreactions in organic solvents. These include- high solubility of most organic compounds in nonaqueous media, ability to carry on new reactions which are unfavorable in water due tothermodynamic restrictions. Also stability of enzymes can be greater and product recovery canbe relatively easier in organic solvents. Nevertheless, activity of the enzymes including lipases isreduced in water-organic solvent mixture. The effect of organic solvents on enzyme activitydepends on their physiochemical properties like dielectric constant and logP value (logarithm ofthe ratio of the concentrations of the unionized solute in the solvents).
