Research: Process Visualisation in the NHSAim: NHS Improvements are in the process of creating a Model Hospital . This is an analytical model and will display data, collected from all NHS hospitals, in a variety of formats comparing performance. My work will map and visualise those work processes that influence that data giving a clear indication to hospitals of where to make changes to improve the data, thus reducing unwarranted variation and identifying best practice.Methodology: I'm working with NHS Improvements to register each data element and identify hospital work processes that influence that data element. I'm working with hospitals and mapping each process and producing a visualisation of the processes. Process visualisations will be promulgated to identify, via focus groups, best practice throughout the NHS. The Health Foundation have identified the need for process mapping in the NHS. I have developed a method of process mapping/visualisation which, unlike traditional methods, is very user friendly. It is envisaged that this work will embrace the good practice resulting from the 'Productive Ward' Series. Results: As a working example the Author can demonstrate the visualisation of the NatSSIPs process. Key functionality of the resulting process visualisation can be shown. By stringing relevant mapped processes end to end, patient flow can be reviewed for the whole range of different patient routes. The process visualisations for a particular area or department, say a ward or theatre, will be an effective learning/improvement tool for all staff. Show less
