I-15 Corridor Express Lanes ProjectThe $1.4 billion project spanned 20 miles, from SR 163 in San Diego to SR 78 in Escondido. The I-15 express lane corridor is considered one of the most innovative highway systems in San Diego County and included a moveable barrier and four direct access ramps, which connect drivers to the express lanes from city streets.• Ensured that the contractor and its representatives (subcontractors) adhered to the plans and specifications and constructed the projects in substantially the same form as was bid. In addition to structural work, I also coordinated utilities and monitored SWPPP.• Reviewed and inspected all elements of bridge and roadway construction, paying close attention to standard plans, standard specifications, special provisions, bridge falsework and shoring plans for grading, construction, and removal. • Assisted the Structure Representative with technical submittals; prepared monthly progress reports and payments.• Attended and often led weekly progress meetings with contractor staff and Structures Representative.• Reviewed and inspected bridge falsework and shoring plans for grading, construction, and removal. • Utilized 50-scale drawings to identify finish bridge deck elevations; top of concrete elevations for abutments, columns, wing walls, falsework top cap elevations, falsework camber. • Oversaw the construction and placement of CIDH piles, columns, abutments, retaining walls, MSE walls, sound walls, and barriers. The interchange was located in an already impacted area so the design involved multiple vertical and horizontal alignment design exceptions. I developed the final design from conceptual drawings put together from an on sight assessment. Conducted the preliminary inspection of existing superstructures, roadway, and terrain. Played a key role in the development of overcrossing alignment.• I-5 North Coast CorridorTechnical design support for preliminary engineering and alternative analysis of four interstate expansion options on I-5, in San Diego County (from La Jolla Village Drive in San Diego to Harbor Drive in Oceanside). Responsibilities included working closely with internal customers at Caltrans such as Right of Way Engineering, Utilities, Hydraulics, Environmental, external customers, and the general public to provide the most reasonable alternatives that were also economically feasible. The evaluation of each alternative addressed a variety of factors including overall cost, and environmental and right-of-way impacts. All projects included, but were not limited to, realignment of right of way, bridge expansions, drainage detailing, and on and off-ramp reconfigurations. • I-5/Lomas Santa Fe Dr.Responsible for assisting in the design of two loop on ramps and an auxiliary lane from the Via de la Valle interchange to the Lomas Santa Fe interchange. Design included determining alignments, cut/fill lines, typical cross sections, and an overall cost assessment. I also assisted in the design and development of the stage construction plans. I worked closely with hydraulic engineers, geotechnical engineers and surveyors in the development of the plan sheets. Show less
