    • Maine Pretrial Services

      Jan 2011 - May 2011
      Maine PreTrial Services Internship

Maine Pretrial Services/ Kennebec County/Cumberland CountyJusticePretrial services program can be valuable resources for making significant improvements in the criminal justice system because they are used in the early stages of the criminal case process. Unnecessary detention before trial not only results in unnecessary jail costs, it also deprives defendants of their liberty. From a policy perspective, decisions about detaining or releasing defendants should balance the benefits of release and the risk of flight or threat to public safety.I am doing a lot of interesting work here at Maine Pretrial. I am getting to know MPS from the inside out, as I was assigned to compile a list of resources for the entire state of Maine, and I am now observing PFA Court, Drug Court, and Arraignments in Augusta and Portland, Maine. I am also doing Check-ins, and Data entry. Show less
