      Technical Career Highlights:• Held variety of roles on NATS iFACTS project: a £multi-million software engineering project to develop a new air traffic control system for the UK. Roles included end-to-end development of a major subsystem, including architecture, specification apportionment, detailed module design, code, and developer test. Also, test design/scripting; configuration and build management; Level 1 Support; definition of key technical strategies, processes and tool support.• Overall Project Manager for a €0.5M project to verify safety-critical railway signalling software against CENELEC 50128 at SIL4. Mobilised initial team of 30 engineers in India, UK and France including all supporting project infrastructure. Delivered planning and mobilisation phase to form a sound baseline for future eight months project work.• Worked with Rolls-Royce Control Systems Group to coach and mentor engineers in a new approach to requirements engineering and system specification.• Worked with National ERTMS Programme to define integrated approaches to systems engineering—providing assurance on a 40 year rail investment programme led by Network Rail for the UK rail industry.• Worked with Railtrack Chief Engineer’s Group to define and manage requirements—providing assurance on a £5.8bn upgrade programme of West Coast Main Line (WCML): one of Europe’s biggest mixed-use railways.• Provided NATS and EuroInterlocking with specialist requirements consultancy, tool development and training.       Appointed ‘General Manager’ for Praxis’s first non-European international office, in Bangalore, India. Travelled to India as an expatriate and responsible for all aspects of set up and initial operation of a highly-skilled offshore software engineering team. General management responsibility included all local HR (including recruitment and staff management), health and safety, IT (including procurement and set up), security, office environment and administration.Key achievements:• Successfully formed and expanded the team from three initial staff to twelve.• Planned and delivered all induction and training necessary to start chargeable work.• Managed the team through an initial 6-week period whilst they 'mirrored' UK activities. The team subsequently took responsibility for the software build and CM activities for a 250 KSLOC project involving over 80 developers and testers, without major issues.• Identified a local manager and provided close technical support whilst managing a phased handover.• Provided internal pre-sales function for the UK business, responsible for promoting the newly-formed offshore offer with existing business managers and for acting as a single point of contact for related sales activity.• Responsible for budget and P&L within UK business for offshore work packages. Leadership of 125 engineers working on projects in aerospace, rail, automotive and telecoms domains. Primarily offshore delivery with end-clients based in UK, France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands and India. Responsible for budget definition and P&L for multi-million Euro offshore revenues.Accountable for all aspects of leadership and management necessary to sustain and grow the business unit. Included stakeholder engagement (from Project-level to Director-level), P&L management and cost control, bid/proposal management, project delivery planning and execution, capability planning/growth, resource planning and recruitment, staff management, training, and liaison with all support functions such as HR, IT, health and safety, security, and facilities.Reported to Director-level in both Europe and in India.Key achievements:• Led initial operational merger with minimal attrition—to provide a solid foundation for future growth.• Doubled billable headcount within 9 months—to build capacity and to meet client demand.• Reduced dependency on subcontract staff—to maximise margin and improve sustainability.• Defined and introduced a harmonised Company-wide Grade and Salary framework—to provide a solid foundation for staff attraction, retention and career progression.• Introduced ISO 9001 compliant quality-approach to delivery centre activities.• Created new technical teams in areas including automotive software, railway signalling software, and model-based software and systems engineering—to broaden and diversify existing capabilities and offers.• Responsible for budget setting and P&L within India business including required liaison with Group geographies.• Assessed potential M&A targets from technical and operational perspective. The scope was to consolidate several independent, fragmented and specialised technical project teams (comprising approximately 60 staff, each within their own history, management/ownership and identity) into a single delivery organisation, to provide a solid platform for future growth and leverage by the wider Altran Group.Key achievements:• Led a team of three to elicit vision and requirements from change sponsors (all Group Director-level).• Refined initial requirements into an implementable, phased and documented plan and schedule, successfully presented and validated with wider Group Directors, and used to drive implementation in India.• Subsequently, elements of the plan re-used as a blueprint for similar change implementations in other Group locations.
