      Web Application Development Intern

Along with a group of five other classmates from Loyola Marymount, I assisted Los Angeles Police Department Homicide Detectives in designing and creating a web application database that assisted in organizing old murder case files. Previously, the LAPD detectives were storing their older murder case files (which were just paper files) in binders. Occasionally, cases that were directly related to one another were located in completely different binders, so my team and I sought to create a web application that organized these case files accordingly and electronically to assist the detectives in looking up information on their old murder case files. The name of the project is CrookBook, and can be found here: https://github.com/evanhessler/CrookBookSome of my accomplishments included:• Conducting regular meetings with the LAPD detectives to discuss project goals and accomplishments, as well as receiving feedback which made the project as user-friendly for the detectives as possible. • I assisted in constructing the database schema on paper from data the LAPD gave the team, which helped me understand planning and constructing relational databases better. This also provided the back-end members of the team the means to develop the database for the project.• By reviewing the data given by the LAPD, I was also able to assist in constructing the forms used to enter the case files into the database, which helped maximize productivity. • Wrote and organized project documents to help keep the project organized.
