  The core of my role as a Bioinformatician in the Crop Bioinformatics group was to cooperate with researchers around the world on genomics/transcriptomics projects, develop custom software, perform handling & analysis of biological data and deliver the results in a way that facilitated interpretation and ultimately publication in high-ranking journals.Among the most engaging aspects of my work was the astute evaluation of new technologies, while considering both time and budgetary constraints.Since I got to work with research teams that differed in both their size and experience in genomics I had to acquire the skill of productively communicating with researchers from diverse backgrounds.My work also included a variety of representative, managerial, and teaching duties that further helped me develop my communication and project management skills, including:- presenting results at international conferences & national interest groups- working on successful grant applications; e.g., > 2MM € funding for University Bonn Virtual Collaboration (ViCo)- coordinating teams & mentoring master‘s students- delivering lectures; planning courses/examsScientific work:● I developed a generalized software capable of identifying transposon insertion sites & estimating their likelihood of causing heritable gene knockouts. ● I evaluated and wrote software that elucidates evolutionary adaptations by integrating physiological reaction patterns to stresses with comparative genomics approaches.● I successfully designed and performed sequencing experiments to 1) identify causal genes in crop mutants with potential in plant breeding and 2) further our understanding of the biopolymer suberin.● I developed computational pipelines to analyze various types of NGS data (RNA-/DNA-/ ChIP-Seq, ..) and am an active member in the benchmarking effort of the West-German-Genome-Center (WGGC) comparing variant calling workflows to establish best practices in clinical sequencing.
