A more efficient module was developed by employing Silicon Carbide (SiC) Mosfets. A topology to drive Silicon Carbide (SiC)-Mosfets using conventional gate drivers is also proposed and implemented. Two laboratory prototypes were developed to provide 110 AC output from 48 VDC input. The output power was ~ 500 watts. First module was driven using Si-IGBTs and the second used SiC – Mosfets. The controlling of PWM or Gate signals was done using FPGA Spartan 3 by developing a Verilog program. The effect of SiC-Mosfets in improving efficiency of the inverter is verified and compared with the conventional Si-IGBT based Boost – VSI. Show less
