As a Faculty Development Officer with the Teaching and Learning Centre at Ontario Tech University, I am committed to promoting student-centered pedagogy as well as accessibility, equity, diversity and inclusion. I completed a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Jean-Paul Desaulniers. My dissertation title is Synthesis, Characterization and Biological Investigation of Self-delivering and Modified Short Interfering RNAs. Teaching Assistant for Biology, Fundamentals of Nutrition, Human Anatomy, Applied Molecular Biology, Environmental Chemistry and Bio-Organic Chemistry. The Science Café is a program developed by the Faculty of Science at Ontario Tech to provide additional academic support and mentorship to undergraduate students. I coordinated the program since it launched in January 2016 and served as the Biology Teaching Assistant. Through this role, I provided one-on-one or group support and helped students improve their study skills. I provided drop-in office hours for Biology I and II (BIOL1010 and BIOL1020) and facilitated two lab sections for Human Anatomy (BIOL2050). This role allowed me to work closely with the Student Learning Centre's Peer Program Coordinator and help develop and overlook Ontario Tech's academic peer programs: Peer-Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) and Peer Tutoring.I also had the opportunity to plan and run my own Study Skills Workshop Series for students enrolled in Biology II (BIOL1020) during the Spring/Summer 2015 semester. Most participants disclosed that they performed better on exams after attending these sessions. The Conversation Café is run by the Student Learning Centre at Ontario Tech and provides a weekly drop-in opportunity for students to practice spoken English and meet students from different programs and cultures. My role was to suggest topics, engage students and moderate the discussion, always ensuring that participants felt comfortable. As one of the Biology and Chemistry tutors at the Student Learning Centre, I provided one-on-one and group academic support to fellow UOIT undergraduate students.Courses: Biology I and II (BIOL1010 and BIOL1020), Genetics and Molecular Biology (BIOL2020), Cell Biology (BIOL2030), Human Anatomy (BIOL2050), Introduction to Microbiology and Immunology (BIOL 2060), Biochemistry I (BIOL2080), Chemistry I and II (CHEM1010 and CHEM1020) and Introduction to Organic Chemistry (CHEM2020)
