A referral order is an order given by the court to most 10 to 17 year old who are appearing for the first time, having received a court outcome normally by the magistrates court and have pleaded guilty to at least some of the offences before the court. At a Panel meeting, the aim is to encourage young people to take responsibility and speak up for themselves and negotiate contracts with the young person on how they are going to improve their behavior and how to prevent them from re-offending.Also it is my fiduciary duty to refer people back to the courts if they do not comply with the order which the court has imposed upon them. I have recently (2014) taken the position of lead panel member when new trainees start observing. With this being a high duty, i must act in the best interest of the Youth Offending Team. I have signed official documentation regarding confidentiality, which i am highly committed to not breaching. Show less
