      The James B. Moran Center for Youth Advocacy provides low-income Evanston youth and their families with integrated legal and social work services to improve their quality of life at home, at school, and within the Evanston Community. As a summer intern at the Moran Center I was involved in a number of the Center's activities including: -Shadowing their attorneys in both adult and juvenile court-Spearheading the Center's record expungement project by compiling and recording criminal records of over a hundred clients in order to document which are eligible for expungement-Staffing the Center's Expungement Help Desk at Skokie Courthouse; helping over a dozen adults expunge or seal their criminal records by looking up their record, making recommendations on expungement/sealing eligibility, and completing the necessary paperwork-Assisting with any paralegal/office/secretarial duties along with whatever else is asked of me Show less

Moran Center for Youth Advocacy's alternative approach to youth justice on juvenile recidivism in comparison with the Cook County's Public Defenders Office. For this project, I analyzed the criminal records of 70 Moran Center clients to produce 12 different recidivism rates, compared these measures to different county/state recidivism measures, and interviewed Center staff to both understand the Center's methods and assess their efficacy.
