      Within six weeks of starting as a general assignment reporter, I became the beat reporter covering the Residence Hall Association. I went on to cover the Association of Students of the University of Nebraska, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, and sustainability. During the spring 2012 semester, I was the unofficial bedbug beat reporter and covered the bedbug outbreak in the residence halls. In the span of two years, I wrote more than 200 articles and averaged four articles per week.

      Production Assistant - Air Schooner

      As part of an Undergraduate Creative Activity and Research (UCARE) project, I was a production assistant for Air Schooner, a podcast for the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s literary journal, Prairie Schooner. I worked closely with journalism professor Scott Winter, who was one of the podcast cohosts, along with Stacey Waite. My responsibilities included reviewing and cutting clips from interviews, editing audio, conducting studio interviews, managing social media, and build full episodes. I also was the main producer on the Reading Series episodes, writing episode copy and collaborating with the host. My final UCARE report and UNL Honors Program thesis was the Air Schooner Production Assistant Manual for any future production assistants. Show less

      As a general assignment news reporting intern, I covered a variety of stories, many of which were health or medical related. One of the biggest stories I worked on was an enterprise article about the Hutterite gene and if it was affecting any of the Hutterite communities near Mitchell, South Dakota. Another big project I worked on was the 2012 Progress Edition of the Daily Republic, which required driving to seven different towns to gather historical photos and recreating modern versions.

      I stepped into my first manager role as copy chief at the beginning of my junior year, and led a team of 7-10 copyeditors. I organized copy desk schedules, ran weekly meetings, and was slot editor three nights a week. Ahead of the new semester, I rewrote and updated the DN Stylebook for the 2012-2013 school year. I also ran editing seminars to help improve copyeditors’ skills.

      As editorial director, I lead the creative department—which includes editors, staff writers, photo editors, and designers—and sit on the leadership team. I collaborate closely with the art director, senior editor, and photo + video director to drive efficient processes and ensure creative quality across brands. I set and execute on the editorial strategy that expands our content offerings beyond our foundation of executive profiles and grows our digital audience. I also lead the implementation of artificial intelligence into creative department processes. Achievements include: • Writing Guerrero AI Standards and creating the AI Committee, which includes representation from creative, marketing, and operations leaders• Implemented process for AI-assisted feature production that increased new content to 65% of total published content • Increasing Hispanic Executive pageviews by 50% in twelve months• Launching editorial and photo comms process with senior director of client services• Streamlining final print production stages with initialing checklists to reduce errors• Assisting with new digital ad products and building out SEO best practices Show less As editorial manager, I took on additional leadership responsibilities within the creative department in addition to my role as managing editor of Profile magazine. My direct reports still included the staff writers and added any new editor hires.
