The study sought to determine the extent of the gender innovation gap for male owned and female owned firms as well as the factors contributing to this gap. The Blinder Oaxaca decomposition technique was adopted incorporating the extended non-linear regression version by Fairlie using cross-sectional data from the World Bank Enterprise Survey 2018. Findings shed light on the gender inequalities that exist in the context of innovation as male owned enterprises had better innovation outcomes due to possession of resources. Additionally, there were unobservable factors which formed a larger portion of the innovation gap indicating that there were structural biases which are often associated with discrimination. In conclusion, reducing the unobservable structural biases which accounted for a higher share in the gender innovation gap would significantly reduce the innovation gap in Kenya. Show less

Digital Trade Regulatory Integration Professional Consultant for Rwanda

Professional Consultancy on Digital Trade Regulatory Integration for the Republic of Rwanda focusing on by creating two databases on Digital Services Trade Restrictions Index (DSTRI) and Regional Digital Trade Integration Index (RDTII). The Digital Services Trade Restrictiveness Index (DSTRI) framework was analyzed through five main components which include Infrastructure and Connectivity, Electronic Transactions, Payment Systems, Intellectual Property Rights and other barriers affecting digitally enabled services. The DSTRI framework majorly looked at the restrictiveness aspects of various laws and regulations that could impede e-commerce digital transactions across the borders. The Regional Digital Trade Integration Index (RDTII) is constructed as a composite regulatory index that currently covers 47 indicators belonging to 11 regulatory pillars. These 11 pillars are Tariffs and Trade Defense, Public procurement, Investment, Intellectual Property Rights, Infrastructure and Competition, Cross border data policies, Domestic data policies, Intermediary liability and content access, Quantitative trade restrictions, Standards and Online sales and transactions. Each of the 11 regulatory pillars is treated with equal weighting when they are aggregated into the overall RDTII, because each pillar is considered an equally important element of the digital trade governance. Within each of the 11 pillars, there are three to five types of policy measures, which could potentially be implemented in the country. The entries are given different weights because some measures can have a stronger impact on digital trade than others. Show less
