In a spoken word poetry slam competition you have three minutes to read an original poem from memory and be judged by your peers in the audience. I was on the first team from West Palm Beach, Florida to ever compete in the US National Poetry Slam competition. I also traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to work with a music producer to make my first spoken word album. I later self-published and sold that album at events. I got as far as doing interviews and performances for talent recruiters for the HBO show, Def Poetry Jam before stopping to focus more on school. Show less

      Information Technology Specialist

This was a retail position that required staying on the bleeding edge of technology in order to provide custom solutions to a wide range of clients. The position required greeting customers and building little mini relationships with them so they had the best experience possible when in the store. There was always required continuing education through online learning modules, and hands-on workshops to learn to use new technology before it was released. There was also a required understanding and regular implementation of their sales, bonus and extended warranty programs. Show less

      Feb 2000 - Feb 2001
      Computer Lab Assistant

While in tech school, my primary teacher asked if I'd be interested in a part-time job running the computer lab on campus. This was a great opportunity to get even more hands-on, real-world experience aside from the tinkering and testing being done in classes. The job responsibilities included opening and closing the lab, assisting other students with their homework, troubleshooting and fixing desktops and regularly wiping the machines and setting them back to a default configuration every day.

Even though I was sort of an IT generalist at this point, my main focus at this Managed Services Firm was to provide support for portable devices, desktops, servers, and backend infrastructure for internal staff and external clients. I was regularly tasked with working in server rooms, configuring virtual environments, implementing creative solutions to complex problems and learning new software applications well enough to teach them. I also traveled to India to teach our satellite office how to use the company's main managed services application. Other duties included visiting off-site clients to perform hardware procurement, light SAN and backup management, server builds and migrations, and providing collaborative support for Windows Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Update, Microsoft Exchange, networking, antivirus and other services. • Urban Movement

      Jan 2011 - Jan 2021
      Owner

Urban Movement was a coaching organization I co-founded where I had the opportunity to utilize most of my tech skills and step into more of a leadership role in coaching and community development. The best way to describe what I did while running Urban Movement is that I created experiences. In addition to a deep integration with various organizations around Houston, we had our own 4,000 square-foot gym. The primary goal of the company was to guide people how to move better. Social and emotional learning, mindfulness and meditation were always present. We created an environment that provided students and employees the tools to find their own answers and allowed them to make their own path in a way that would also translate to their life outside the work and training environment.I was a co-founder and the Executive Director who oversaw everything from the incorporation process, brand creation and management, choreography and design, vendor relationships to class programming and delivery, facilities, maintenance and more.Through Urban Movement I was invited to participate, teach and speak at multiple major parkour workshops and symposiums. I've also planned and executed multiple major workshops and certifications, as well as regularly flying in expert coaches from all over the world to teach workshops. Urban Movement established a great reputation around the city with long-standing classes, performances and demonstrations at some of the city's most popular theaters, parks, museums, libraries, movie sets and other private and public events. • Osprey: The Movie

      Jul 2017 - Sept 2017
      Audio Visual Technician

I did audio work as a boom operator as well as movement consultation on a movie set and a couple of commercials. Initially I was just going to help a friend (an AV Professional) who is the father of one of my students. What was supposed to be only one or two jobs turned into a couple of months of work. We got along really well, he thought I had creative ideas, heightened awareness, body control and that I learned quickly. When we got to the movie set my friend had already told everyone about me being a "parkour guy" (even though I was injured at the time). It was an awesome introduction at the time.By the end of the first day the director was asking me if I'd consult on a couple of scenes they had coming up that involved the actor running and jumping around a little. I was thrilled for the opportunity to utilize my skills in a new environment. Around the same time this was happening I started to host stunt workshops at my gym, Urban Movement, which was taught by Houston's top stunt guy. This is on my IMDB page along with a credit from a movie when I was into modeling and acting as a child. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0695577/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0 Show less

    • Texan French Alliance for the Arts

      Jan 2018 - Jun 2019
      Physical Education Teacher

The way I teach falls in line with social and emotional learning elements being utilized by the Texan French Alliance for the Arts. They asked me to work with them during a pilot program at a middle school. So, I brought a bag of tricks to kids at a couple of schools and taught them how to play and interact with their environment in a different way than they were used to. By the time I was done, the hosting teachers said they were in shock at how good I was at holding their attention and successfully encouraging participation at a higher rate than usual.I was later added as a partner with them on a 15-week movement and mindfulness course for the at-risk youth of a middle school. The series ended with an on-stage performance of the entire group of kids running, jumping and demonstrating all the skills they learned to their peers. Show less
