      In his tenure at Neptune and Co., Dr. Markwiese advised managers, regulators, and technical advisory groups on ecological risk assessment, quality assurance and applied biological research projects nationwide. Clients included the Environmental Protection Agency's Quality Staff, Office of Research and Development, and National Homeland Security Research Center, the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy. He has performed risk assessments of large Federal facilities, designed the data collection plan for risk lines of evidence, such as toxicity bioassays and chemical and ecological characterization of environmental media, and routinely audited testing and research laboratories.       Dr. Markwiese was a senior biologist with Environmental Standards, Inc., a consulting firm providing quality assurance support and oversight in environmental chemistry and toxicology, geosciences and environmental data management. The capabilities of Environmental Standards have been extensively and effectively utilized on high-profile emergency response actions such as the TVA Kingston Fly Ash release and the Deepwater Horizon MC252 incident. WED scientists provide information to EPA offices and regions nationwide to improve our understanding of how human activities affect estuarine, freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems.Dr. Markwiese provides expert quality assurance scientific consultation, assistance and advice to principal investigators, research professionals, project officers and WED's director.
