And I'm glad I did.In my new program, I was better able to utilize my strengths and play to my core values more than I could previously, while still incorporating the problem solving and analytical skills I painstakingly learned in engineering. Adding in leadership, strategy, and entrepreneurship to my repertoire transformed my ability to solve not only mathematics and diagnostic problems but broad, encompassing ones as well.Ultimately, it was a much better choice than what I had been pursuing previously, and I'm happy that I followed through and made the switch. And I never would have done it without my academic advisor - Chris Fowler. Thank you, Chris. Show less

      Co-Op Engineer

Implemented new electroplating manufacturing processes in stainless steel, zinc, copper, silver, nickel, and black oxide coatings. Researched and developed testing procedures to combat organizationally significant problems. (Electroplating is adhering one type of metal to another via submersion in a chemical bath).Achievements:Stainless Steel• Reduced process failure 90% by implementing a chemical composition of my design• Eliminated over 200 hours of worker overtime by the reduction of process failure• Saved $30,000+ per year by using the new solution, reduced overtime, and greater process success• Research and performance improvement for stainless steel led to process improvements in zincZinc• Achieved a 95% success rate when dyeing zinc parts, a 950% increase over the previous rate of 10%, by implementing new part procedures• Replaced the chemical solution responsible for ensuring particulate and oil-free parts with the solution I created for stainless steelSilver• Improved silver oxidation resistance by 100% to ensure client parts arrived in excellent conditionBlack Oxide• Enhanced black oxide-coated parts resistance to UV radiationInteresting Notes:• Have experience of being inside an oven at nearly 400 degrees Fahrenheit• Know how to heat nickel for it to create rainbow striations over its surface• If you’ve ever wondered what concentrated sulfuric acid feels like on your skin, don’t worry, you’re not missing out on much Show less

The other link will take you to an article written and published by The Russ College of Engineering at Ohio University. Getting to meet as many people as I did, from as many backgrounds as I did, gave me perspectives and insights I never would have known otherwise.• New facilities bring additional challenges that are often not thought of when considering already established companies.
