      Graduate Student Researcher

Research Project: Impact of soil-structure interaction on the seismic performance of tall reinforced concrete shear wall buildingsMy research project has been funded by a $17,500 NSERC CGSM scholarship awarded by the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. My duties include the following:- Conducted nonlinear response history analyses on a 30-storey reinforced concrete shear wall building by running 33 ground motion suites on an LS-DYNA finite element model of the structure.- Scripted MATLAB codes to compile the data from the nonlinear analyses and to plot the engineering demand parameters (peak and mean interstorey drifts, residual drifts, floor accelerations, concrete compressive strains, steel reinforcement tensile strains, racking drifts, damageable wall drifts, shear force / bending moment / axial force demands)- Compared the engineering demand parameters obtained from MATLAB against force and deformation controlled limits provided in the PEER TBI guidelines- Constructed linear elastic soil models in LS-DYNA and conducted seismic site response analyses on each. Built MATLAB codes to verify the response of the models.- Modelled soil-structure interaction in LS-DYNA. Show less
