Senior Engineering Manager. Leads teams of technicians in the inspection and repair of faulty components. Manages the preventive maintenance program on control and monitoring circuits, power generation equipment and structures. Supervises technicians in the maintenance of electrical equipment such as generators, motors, batteries, and bus transfer equipment. Leads in the certification testing of alarms and indicating systems. Interprets technical drawings in the form of schematics, P&ID's, blueprints, and charts. Operates and performs mechanical maintenance on propulsion and electrical generating systems. Trains technicians on operation, repair and maintenance of equipment such as A4W Westinghouse, Foster Wheeler, Rolls Royce, Siemens, Detroit Diesel, Allison 501, etc.. Operates and recognizes fault indicators from dials, gauges, and controls; locates, interprets, and maintains files of publications, directives, manuals, and catalogs. Constructs, commissions, operates and maintains engine control systems, electrical generators, and electric plant control equipment from local operating stations or switchboards. Performs maintenance and checkout procedures on power supplies, engineering control systems, and electrical generator control units. Locates equipment casualties to systems, subsystems, and circuits in steam propulsion control equipment. Uses necessary test equipment for troubleshooting steam propulsion; infrared thermal testing on electrical panels, and electric motor controllers.LeadershipProject ManagementProgram ManagementClear CommunicationsComputer ApplicationsSchedulingMaintenance ManagementTraining & Evaluating TeamsPower Plant Construction, Commissioning, Operations and OutagesMentorship and Career CounselingSteam Turbine EnginesReactor and Boiler Maintenance And RepairInstrumentation and Controls (I&C)Fuel SystemsHazardous MaterialsMechanical SystemsMechanical Systems TroubleshootingPersonnel DevelopmentQA Show less Power Plant OperatorSafe and proper operation of the ship’s entire engineering plant. Surface blowing of steaming boilers. Controlling the power requirements for present and future operations and determine how the engineering plant will effectively meet these requirements. Promptly correct hazardous conditions in the plant. Direct the lighting off and securing of the engineering plant in accordance with applicable EOSS. Ensure that the proper material condition of readiness is set within the Engineering department at all times. I&C Instrumentation is defined as the art and science of measurement and control of the process variables within a production ormanufacturing area. The process variables used in industries are Level, Pressure, Temperature, Humidity, Flow, pH, Force, Speed etc. Control engineering or control systems engineering is the engineering discipline that applies control theory to design systems with desired behaviors. Control engineers are responsible for the research, design, development and control devices/systems, typically in manufacturing facilities and plants. The practice uses sensors to measure the output performance of the device being controlled and those measurements can be used to give feedback to the input actuators that can make corrections toward desired performance. When a device is designed to perform without the need of human inputs for correction it is called automatic control (such as cruise control for regulating a car's speed). Multi-disciplinary in nature, control systems engineering activities focus on implementation of control systems mainly derived by mathematical modeling of systems of a diverse range. These same logics and repairs were necessary for proper shipboard engineering operation. Show less
