      Freelance typesetting and computer programming

I worked on many different projects while attending Brown University Graduate School. For many years I generated the camera-ready copy of the white pages section of the Brown University phone book using scripts designed by Allen Renear to print to a postscript printer from the university's mainframe computer.Sabol, Andrew J. Four Hundred Songs and Dances from the Stuart Masque. Providence: Brown University Press, 1978. I created the camera-ready copy including the paste-up of the musical scores after Prof. Sabol printed them with a special typewriter.I created a concordance program using Apple's HyperCard to handle a long Yiddish poem about King Arthur.Cook, Albert Spaulding. The Stance of Plato. Lanham, Md: Littlefield Adams Books, 1996. "I am grateful to Timothy Seid for his skilled and expeditious help with computer preparations of the final text."Sullivan, Robert. A Matter of Faith: The Fiction of Brian Moore. Westport, Conn: Greenwood Press, 1996. "Without the computer wizardry of Tim Seid of Brown University the manuscript would not only have taken much longer to produce, but would have been in much poorer shape."Index of catalog holdings for the John Carter Brown library at Brown University. The project involved creating a computer program to sort the bibliography based on the index subjects and produce a printed catalog.Lindheim, Sara Helaine. Voices of Desire: The Ventriloquized Letters of Ovid's Heroides. Thesis (Ph. D.)--Brown University, 1995, 1995. I converted a dissertation from the Classics department from the mainframe to Microsoft Word. I created programs on the mainframe in Rexx to do some file conversion and then ran it through a HyperCard stack I created that would take a tagged text (pre-HTML tag set based on concepts of SGML) and produce a fully-formatted Microsoft Word RTF file (with paragraph and character styles, footnoting, Greek text, chapter divisions, and table of contents).
