      Undergraduate Research Assistant in Psychology

      - Studied the dynamics of recollection (i.e., if memories are recollected as a sequential replay or spatially reconstructed from perceptions).- Contributed to development of a virtual reality paradigm to study episodic spatial memories and explore spatial reconstruction - Experiment consisted of a series of trials in which participants experienced 360-degree novel real-world environments through an Oculus rift and aimed to test participants’ abilities to quickly learn new scenes and determine their relative orientation in those scenes. - Work selected for publication in the 2022 Proceedings of GREAT Day- Examined the role of RNA binding in the integration of R2 elements into the host genome.- Goal was to identify additional RNA binding domains in the thumb region of the R2 protein that are critical in the R2 protein’s ability to bind R2 RNA and carry out target-primed reverse transcription and integration.- Performed site-directed mutagenesis on highly conserved regions of the R2 protein thumb domain and transformed mutant protein into competent cells for protein purification and expression Show less - Ozubko, J.; Campbell, M.; Verhayden, A.; Demetri, B.; Brady, M.; Brunec, I. Study Coordination, Recruitment and Data Collection: - Coordinated three NIMH funded R01 studies and data collection protocols; patient recruitment, data management, family enrollment and progress tracking; performs MRI safety screeners, IRB consents and study eligibility questionnaires; schedules all infant research study visits; work directly with families throughout entirety of study participation.- Led the infant neuroimaging recruitment initiative to mitigate health disparities in research and treatment access by establishing a recruitment partnership with Hughes Spalding Children’s Hospital.- Directly interacted with low SES families during their infant’s well-baby visit at the primary care clinic. Recruited families from underserved communities for several prospective longitudinal infant development studies at MAC, improving access for families with babies at elevated genetic likelihood for autism who normally would not have been able to participate in or learn about the research and treatment services at MAC due to financial and/or geographic challenges.Research projects:- Studying healthcare provider perspectives on evidenced-based Naturalistic, Developmental, Behavioral Intervention (NDBI) methods within the Early Intervention (EI) system in Georgia.Assessing provider-reported use of evidence-based early intervention practices within Georgia’s state-funded early intervention program (*manuscript under review, Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 2023)- Investigating caregiver perspectives on participating in infant non-clinical longitudinal MRI research to improve the experience of participants and advance research in pediatric neuroimaging.Other experiences:- Marcus Autism Center Crisis Prevention Program (MCPP) (Certification issued October 2022)- Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics Shadowing Show less Demetri, B., Reineri, C., Sholar, B., Shultz, S., (2023, May; 2023, June).
