Worked full time at Fastenal Company in Huntington, WV. While earning my BS Business Management Fastenal sales position allowed me to deal with small business to national manufacturing plants while learning all the textbook cases. I was able to see the classroom world while seeing first hand the real world scenarios and management practices. Great combination!

During my time at Marshall, I worked full time at Fastenal Company while being a full time student. I was very fortunate that the management team at Fastenal (Brian Linnville and Deron Chapman) let me work around my class schedule. It was great experience working my way up from warehouse staff to sales, to Assistant Branch Manager all while attending the Business School at Marshall. I was able to gain real world experience and hear the teaching/text book side of business all at the same time. Somewhat tiring, but being able to see 30-40 business practices a week while on the street selling gave me a huge leg up on understanding how each business, especially manufacturing, has it's niche and meets it's customers needs. • Fastenal Company

      Feb 1998 - Oct 2002

Great experience learning the processes and tools/supplies needed for manufacturing and construction customers. Interesting to see what goes into making a product from start to finish from Steel Mills. Automotive Parts manufacturing (Borg Warner) to Electric Power plants and construction companies. We were a top 50 location of 2200 for dollars / month. Was able to attend Marshall University in the Business Management program full time while working at Fastenal and got to learn real world and classroom practices at the same time. Show less
