  Served as Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Aircraft Handling) on the USS Belleau Wood and USS Essex. Fully responsible for Harrier Jump Jet and various helicopter assortment activities: launch, recovery, spotting, securing, firefighting & damage control. Also handled operating and maintaining ground-handling equipment used for maintaining, moving and hoisting aircraft.

  Store Manager

  Big Mike's was a popular spot in a busy college town - with heavy traffic in the evenings. This position taught me to : screen, hire, train, motivate, and juggle schedules of part-time student employees while finding a way to keep customers happy. There were also payroll and reporting duties associated with the role. This was a fun way to stay busy and learn new skills while my wife was finishing her degree.

  Lead Mechanic

  After my wife finished her degree we decided to move back to her home island of Miyako (Okinawa). I was the Lead Mechanic for 12 years at a full service automobile inspection and repair shop. At the shop we did everything from basic annual inspections and tire changes to complete engine and transmission rebuilds. There were periods where I was the only mechanic, but usually I was also responsible for apprenticing other mechanics to oversee their work.

  I was an English language teacher with students ranging in age from toddlers to adults. Responsible for customizing the curriculum to the individual needs. This was a great opportunity to work closer to home when we had a young family that needed us there.

  Sizing Team Lead

  Boston Valley Terra Cotta is a global architectural ceramic manufacturer specializing in exterior cladding for buildings. Some of the pieces are historical restorations and others a custom exteriors for new buildings. I began working in the Extrusion Department where the custom modern pieces are produced and I was promoted to Lead the Sizing Team in 2021. The Sizing Team consists of 7 team members (including me) on the day shift and between 2 and 3 on the night shift. We have 6 CNC wet-saws and a 5 axis cutting machine we use to size the pieces as needed so they fit precisely as needed. The position requires daily / weekly focus planning according to upstream production and required delivery schedules. I train new hires and also ensure that team members operate cross-functionally on the various equipment so we can back each other up as needed. I am also a CNC operator as needed on all equipment.
