Attend deliveries and manage care of critically ill infants born at age of viability through term, those requiring thermal regulation, glucose control, titration of vasopressors, multiple modalities of ventilatory support including high frequency jets and oscillators, inhaled nitric oxide, tracheostomies, those needing hypothermic treatment of HIE, ventricular reservoirs/VP shunts, chest tubes, surgical interventions (including PDA ligation, surgical drains, silos, etc.) and continuous monitoring of amplitude integrated EEG. Trained in insertion and maintenance of peripherally inserted central venous lines. Serve as resource/preceptor to new colleagues. Integrate family-centered developmental care with above technical skills to afford families a holistic, full-circle, involved experience in the NICU. As charge nurse, am responsible for ensuring adequate staffing according to patient acuity, coordinating patient transport from outlying facilities, collaboration/progression of care for deteriorating infants in well-baby nursery, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and increasing productivity in unit on budgetary level. Enjoy volunteering as a peer reviewer for professional journal, Advances in Neonatal Care, critiquing as-yet unpublished articles of original research, case studies, and quality improvement projects. Serve as communication liaison between unit and Virginia state chapter of March of Dimes, and as fundraising lead and team captain for the yearly March for Babies.
