Built trust between corporate tax department and both subsidiary and subsidiary’s county assessor’s office.• Saved the company $140K in property tax for the first year by analysis of 19M project that was able to demonstrate $8M in cost that did not add market value to the plant. • Saved $25K-$30K in property taxes per year by presenting state appraiser with a convincing written argument demonstrating that plant computer controls have a shorter life than the equipment that the controls operate. • Managed hectic new property tax compliance workload when company acquired 4 additional sites in 3 new states with new legal requirements and new appraisers.• Implemented new platform for property tax software, documenting the uses for all the new fields and creating better information, and greater efficiency.• Identified and presented to county appraisers land restrictions due to creek setbacks on two land parcels. Land value on developed parcel was reduced by 25% while the land value on the smaller undeveloped parcel was reduced by 80%.• Assessed values were reduced on two plants upon conclusion of state advisory appraisals by the Department of Revenue due to careful management. Reductions from $33.0M to $30.5M on the larger plant and $7.0M to $6.4M on the smaller plant. This special exemption exempted work on the building and saved an estimated $115K in sales tax paid.• Trained plant and purchasing personnel in what is taxable (sales/use) and exempt, reducing exposure upon audit.• Initiated review of relocation policy by demonstrating results of the loose policy. Collaborated with Human Resources to simplify and strengthen the system to remove the abuse. This effort reduced administration of the relocation function by at least 50%. • Collaborated with operations director to create a working process to keep plant asset list scrubbed training the on-site plant controllers as point persons for this activity.
