  Psychology Research Assistant for the Transformative Self Lab led by Dr. Jack Bauer. Worked with other students to identify themes in people’s life stories such as love, wisdom, happiness, and growth in work-life, relationships, major-life decisions, etc… Coded excerpts from the data collected from research participant’s interviews and met weekly with the team to compare notes and code for inter-rater reliability.

  Leading non-traditional talk and mind-body therapy with a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and physical activity in the form of low impact, engaging movement for children and adolescents. Meeting with clients weekly to guide in learning the benefits of physical movement on the brain and the skills you can use day-to-day to combat stress, anxiety, depression, grief, disordered eating, obsessive compulsions, self-harming behaviors, etc… Gained experience shadowing and participating in individual and group therapy sessions with children and adolescents ranging from 6-15 years old.

  Off-campus internship at a residential facility for teenage girls who have experienced and witnessed abuse and other trauma, including some involved in human trafficking. Only facility in the county to house pregnant girls. Built trust and maintained strong professional relationships with the staff and individual patients. Learned how animal-assisted therapy is used to benefit mental health, boost self-esteem, and teach compassion to the patients through their equine program and 22 acres of land. Show less

  Serving the role as a clinician in a fast-paced intensive-care environment that includes both a special education program and residential homes on campus. Attending to the needs of middle school and high school aged adolescents while managing a heavy caseload of clients who have educational, emotional, or behavioral challenges, most of which come from trauma. Conducting risk assessments, crisis management, safety planning, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and practicing a strengths-based approach.
