I started to work at the General Pulmonology Division. I gained experience in the management of the most common respiratory diseases like COPD, asthma or pneumonia. I also had the chance of getting a peek into basic oncopulmonology. For the past six month I have been working at the sub intensive care unit of our clinic, where I learnt a lot about non-invasive ventilation, especially in COPD patients. I had the chance of learning skills like arterial blood gas sampling, radial artery cannulation and the use of a variety of BiPAP machines. I am also interested in invasive procedures like thoracostomy and bronchoscopy, though I need a lot of practice in those areas. During my work here I attended a course about critical care ultrasound where I learnt basic skills in echocardiography, FAST examination and ultrasound guided vascular access. Show less During my Ph.D. Studies I focused on the role of vitamin d metabolism in a variety of diseases like cancer (colon cancer and papillary thyroid cancer) and osteoporosis. I am specifically interested in the connection of the vitamin d pathway and the WNT pathway. I managed to publish my main work in journal of bone and mineral metabolism and I also co-authored a number of articles in different endocrinology based journals. I took the opportunity to learn a number of useful lab skills like genotyping, qPCR, LC-PCR, and Sanger sequencing. I also had the chance of getting acquainted with NGS and I personally carried out a number of Ion Torrent PGM runs. Show less
