      Leadership & Management

I have completed two Leadership and Management courses; foundation level, Edward Jenner program in 2014 and Cohort 7, an intensive intermediate leadership and management program, in 2016. I learnt about the service improvement tools e.g. Lean Process, Six Sigma and Pestle, with modules covering risk assessment and conflict resolution. I used my skills from the foundation Leadership and Management course to understand stakeholders and develop a new vision screening service within Newham borough. Furthermore, I had to use my new knowledge to influence the health visitors and the school nurses to work collaboratively in order to achieve a working vision screening service. I created a business case which showed steps of how to refer patients to the Orthoptic department effectively with reduced false positives and false negatives. The business case helped me to develop a structured method of change management so that the people I was influencing would work collaboratively.Whilst I was working as an Orthoptist throughout my career, I had to comply with the vision and values of the Trusts, encompassing accountability, transparency, honesty, responsibility, respect, listening to patients and putting patients first.
