  Advisory Engineer

  Although I started with IBM as a firmware engineer, I spent the last ten years doing applied research in expert systems. I developed rule-based systems that: a) assisted hardware design engineers with diagnosing design failures during simulation and test verification and b) modeled the functional requirements of the S/38 CPU horizontal microcode. This tool had the ability to generate the functional specificaton automatically from this model. Prior to leaving IBM, I was the project lead for a knowledge acquisition tool for a configuration system that IBM developed to configure all of the IBM computer product lines for sales, order entry, and billing.   Staff Engineer

  As an architect with the technical service organization, I developed vitrtual data warehousing tools for Cray's customer service department. We used LISP to create relational models of their service domain, implemented those models in C, and deployed the applications world wide for internal Cary users. Our research addressed issues in knowledge representation, diagnostic problem modeling, RDBMS design, and user interface design.

  Systems Engineer

  I am an electrical design engineer and software architect. I have more than thirty years of experience in hardware and software design applications. Recently, I designed an ARM9 processor board for a SCADA product running an embedded Linux tool chain. Prior to that my projects range in variety from developing POS (Point of Sale) modules for an international retail company to architecting and developing modules for a company in the oil and gas industry. At this time, I am focusing on the embedded systems domain. In October, 2011, I co-chaired the workshop "Agile and Object Oriented Practices in Embedded Systems" at the SPLASH 2011 Conference.
