I ran Matlab simulations, in order to find the parametric response of a two-degrees of freedom Micro-gyroscope. Displacement and velocity graphs were generated, with different Micro-gyroscope geometry parameters. The graphs helped my mentor advanced to the construction phase of her research.

      Jun 2007 - Aug 2007
      Summer Intern

Assisted in research on Thermophotovoltaic life testing. Required constructing an apparatus to measure voltage across a temperature gradiant while material was under vaccum. Key challenge was constraining the test specimen under vaccum while including adjustability to hold the part in different positions.

      Apr 2011 - Apr 2012
      Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Temporary position as Mechanical Design Engineer at Western Digital:-Using Solid Works designed and brought to production a component which addressed air flow dynamics, acoustics and system level shock robustness; using forging, extrusion and machining manufacturing process-Conducted various tests characterizing air flow, vibrations, helium leak rate and system level shock performance.

General Role•Provide feedback and present design concepts in team meeting•Generate presentations to present design concepts to team members and management•Provide official reports to document testing•Work with interdisciplinary teams for example servo mechanical, manufacturing, material and electrical engineering •Design for Manufacturing(DFM), work with manufactures to agree on a high volume manufacturable design. •Design for Assembly(DFA), work with internal manufacturing team to provide a design that will meet assembly requirement at high volume.•Adjust 3D/2D CAD models as design matures•Use GD&T to control design feature •Stack up analysis to verify high volume fit and proper tolerances specifications•Use shop tools to such as Lathe and Mill to construct fixture or modify mechanical componentsMechanical Components Design•Stamped cover of a HDD enclosure. Ensured fit and proper sealing was met. •Developed a stamped wave washer which provided a pre-determined load over compression range. Used Ansys Workbench to determine the parameters which will give the desired load vs compression curve. •Improved and manages labels. Via drawing, changed adhesive handling requirements to improve adherence performance of a tamper proof label. Also communicated label design and graphics to suppliers. •Flexible Circuit. Workers with Electrical engineering teams to properly set a trace layout.Program Mechanical Design Lead•Represented, Mechanical Design Engineering team, in program management meetings by giving status updates and feedback •Give weekly status updates to Mechanical design engineering management•Conducted Design Engineering and multi disciplinary interlock meetings •Served as the Design Engineering contact for the assigned program Show less Mechanical Component Design•Magnetic assembly of an actuation mechanism. Target requirements included move time, vibration response, cost and induced vibration requirements. •Stamped clamp improvements. Clamp had to meet a clamping force at a set displacement and reduce surface distortion on the surface receiving the clamping load. Ansys workbench was used to optimize material selection and tune load distribution •High precision injected molded plastic component meeting frictional and fit.•Extruded and machined actuators, Initial design. Different metrics taken into account were dynamic response, servo specifications, fit, manufacturability, deflection due to a chock event and performance when put under different vibration frequencies and magnitudes. All components ordered were tested for fit, component and system level testing. If performance or assembly issues were caused by owned component then was responsible for Failure Analysis (FA) activities. Show less Mechanical Component Design•Forged and machined component which managed airflow and increase performance•Injected molded desiccant canister component to control internal, product's life span, humidity.•Alluminum cast enclosure which which encapsulate all internal components against Helium leak and humidity ingressTesting and Development•Shock testing: Put a system under a shock event at different acceleration/duration values•Investigate low cost Helium and Humidity sealing approach.Characterized different adhesives for Helium leak, handling/testing robustness, assembly cycle time and removal(rework-ability)•Humidity control, helium leak and bearing life durability tests Show less
