I assist elementary students in grades K-5 in raising their reading level. I begin by assessing students to determine their level and then proceed by working with various resources and strategies to raise level.

My name is Ana Capristo, future educator, and graduate of California State University, Northridge. I believe that effective teaching is comprised of two necessary and related elements: knowledge of the content and the ability to communicate it. Knowing the material is not enough to be effective in teaching it; likewise, communication skills alone will not result in a successful teaching experience. Thus, I take care to understand the concepts I expect to cover and to make them understandable and relatable to the students. I organize my lesson plans with the students’ learning in mind and keep my knowledge up to date. I also emphasize the importance of communication by using a variety in teaching techniques to make learning enjoyable so as to motivate the students to learn and appreciate the subject. I have a very strong commitment to teaching and to the students I’ve had in my past endeavors. My teaching style includes a student-centered approach and pedagogy that caters to the diverse student body present in the various classrooms I teach in. I draw on these differences to enrich the information of knowledge exchanged in the classroom. My teaching philosophy therefore, stems from several key objectives; I set high expectations for academic rigor and engagement. I feel that students succeed when they are presented with challenging tasks that not only promote high expectations, but that also engage students in a relatable way. Moreover, I encourage and support critical thinking from a very young age. I hope to create an environment where students exchange their ideas and interests as related to the subject, so that they can better engage with eachother and with the instructor. I always look for ways to improve and strengthen my curricular and teaching approach. I understand that being a successful student and/or educator requires lots of time and dedication. Show less
