Sept 2008 - Feb 2017As the program director of the Normandale Academy of Math and Science, I had the privilege to lead a small team in supporting a group of talented Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students in their academic journey at Normandale Community College. Together, through individual advising and group workshops, we gave student the tools they needed to increase confidence, connections, and academic excellence, allowing them to continue their education and graduate, transfer, and/or join the workforce.Key Accomplishments• Led initiatives that resulted in a 40% increase in program applicants over 2 years• Scaled up small scholarship students only transfer workshop in 2013 to college wide transfer fair in 2014• Led team through various transitions, including successfully merging the Normandale Foundation Academy of Math and Science Scholarship program with a new National Science Foundation Grant S-STEM Scholarship program• Successfully formed partnerships with multiple STEM companies, including Toro, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and Xcel Energy to provide company tours, information interviews, job shadowing, and other valuable experiences to student participants• Brought together New Student Programs and the Mathematics department to create Bridge workshop during summer 2015. Program allowed students who tested below college level in Math to take a refresher course, and a college success workshop for free. Overview of Responsibilities• Co-PI on National Science Foundation (NSF) S-STEM grant• Provide narratives, reports, and data for all grants supporting Academy of Math and Science program• Manage overall program vitality via providing direction and leadership to program professional and student staff• Write and follow through on program work plan, review, and budget proposals• Oversee multiple grant budgets and cost centers totaling over $330,000 in yearly operations and scholarships Show less Key Accomplishments• Created program curriculum, including a first and second year student success workshop series• Established relationships with area high schools to recruit high potential at risk students to the scholarship program• Created and maintained program that consistently has an 80% retention, graduation, transfer rate in STEM programs• Designed a mid-term grade checkpoint system for program students.
