  Building sustainability at cal

  I participated in a school program called Building Sustainability at Cal. My duties were to conduct energy audits and comparative analysis regarding energy saving appliances. Our focus was to get buildings on the Cal campus LEED certified. I learned about the measures of the USGBC LEED certification process and how to elevate existing buildings to the LEED standard. For my project I led a team of two other students to implement education programs that focused on decreasing energy use by altering occupant energy use habits. This involved motivating occupants in the building to sign a pledge promising to turn off their lights and power strips at the end of each day. We incentivized participation by creating a raffle and by coming up with metrics on how many killowatt hours were saved. Show less

  I assisted the teacher throughout the semester. I helped students one on one during group activities by asking questions regarding the lesson plan and answering questions about the assignment. I also created two lesson plans. The first lesson was to teach the students of the theory and practice of Zero Waste. The second lesson plan involved the students in a debate regarding the significance of industrial organic farming practices.

  My primary duty was to put together the Sponsorship Package for Wiser Earth and to research potential corporate donors. I used the design programs Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to design the Wiser Earth Sponsorship Flyer and had it reviewed and approved by Kevin Danaher (founder of the Global Exchange and Green Festival). I also wrote the Marketing Partnership Requirements, Sponsorship Guidelines, Sponsorship Agreement, and Sponsorship Process documents for Wiser Earth.   At SFE I have increased the number of certified SF Green businesses by conducting site visits/phone consultations, and by closely following up with businesses. During the consultations I offer advice on how to improve energy/water efficiency, waste reduction practices, and pollution prevention strategies, which help businesses meet their environmental goals of decreasing their impact on the environment and increasing the health/safety of their workers. My duties also include social media outreach, and public speaking. I have presented at several ABAG/ California Green Business Network meetings, as well as represented SFE while there. I have hosted multiple Green Business workshops and mixers. Along with Anna Frankel, I organized the 2011 Green Business awards attended by over two hundred people, co-managed the SFGBP intern, and presented at the Western Sustainability Pollution Prevention Network Conference in Sacramento. Along with the day-to-day operations of supporting businesses through the SFGBP, I oversaw and administered the San Francisco Clean Technology Payroll Expense Tax Exclusion. Clean technology businesses in San Francisco receiving the tax exclusion are required to be a certified Green Businesses. It was my responsibility to determine eligibility based on the clean technology definition described in the ordinance. I also supported the clean technology companies through the SFGBP, and compiled a list of all eligible clean technology businesses for the tax exclusion at the end of the year. Show less

  I am responsible for managing an EPA Region Nine Grant to expand the Green Business Program to disadvantaged communities (DAC) in 3 regions across California. The application for this grant was a collaborative effort between the California Green Business Network and the California Air Resources Board (CARB). I served as the Project Manager for this grant and responsibilities included: selecting 3 DAC as sub-awardees of the grant, creating an application process and criteria for sub-awardees, creating a selection committee to review and select awarded communities, writing contract agreements including the scope of work, detailing project expectations to awarded communities, and overseeing the reimbursement process between the California Green Business Network and the awarded communities. The 3 awarded communities include: West Oakland neighborhood in Alameda County, the County of San Joaquin, and the Oak View neighborhood in the City of Huntington Beach. Show less
