  As part of the Master's degree curriculum, we are asked to work with an NGO to gain field experience. Akshara Centre, an NGO that works for empowering women to fight against violence and discrimination in the society, was the field work I was allotted. My responsibilities in Akshara Centre included:- Promotion of the Gaana Rewrite Competition - Akshara Centre, in partnership with EKSAATH, GIRLS COUNT and ONE BILLION RISING, organised a competition called “Gaana Rewrite” which called upon people, from all ages, to rewrite the sexist lyrics of the popular Bollywood songs to show that we can have catchy songs without the lyrics being degrading to any class, caste or gender. This competition was a celebration of women’s freedom and an assertion of gender equality.- Feeding the data collected on understanding the sexual and collective knowledge of students in and around Mumbai- Assisting in the promotion of the Marathon named "Urban Feet - Night Run for Women's Safety", through social media. Additionally, I also helped in the training session of the volunteers who participated in the marathon.- Painting a public toilet as a campaign towards women's equality and rights. Show less I had volunteered to intern at Akshara Centre during the Diwali holidays. The following were my responsibilities as an intern: - Working with the specific projects undertaken by Akshara. For instance, the minutes of a round table conference on "A Consultation on Understanding Youth in a Globalized India", was to be documented by me.- Sending out invites for a session on 'Gender Identities' that was to happen in Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.- Articulation of ideas for the promotion of a competition named 'Gaana Rewrite', held by Akshara Centre. '- A session on gender identities was conducted in Tiss, Mumbai on the 26th of October, 2016. I was asked to make a report on it.- Formulation of a module for a "Communication Skill Building Workshop".- Identification of Advertising agencies of various newspapers to promote the Gaana Rewrite competition.- Formulation of a creative brief for the Gaana Rewrite Competition which will be used on a nationwide scale.I received a certificate of appreciation and adoration for my work.
