  • Experience

    • Nortel networks

      Jan 2000 - Sept 2005
      Framework software developer

Worked in two Management Systems from Nortel Networks: CDMA Element Management Subsystem (CEMS) and the Base Station Subsystem Manager (BSSM).• Noticed import of customer’s database operations was exceeding 24 hours for customers with big networks. Analyzed and developed a tool that executed the same import operation in 1.25 hours (20 times faster) which reduced the time spent upgrading customers systems to half. Because of this idea and proactivity, I received a commendation and promotion from the Area Senior Director. • Noticed import of customer’s database occasionally failed because customer’s equipment was not defined in the new database framework. Nortel at that time did not have a sanity test for database importation. Took charge and created a sanity environment in order for the import operation be tested with real customer databases before deployment. Import operation fail rate fell from 20% to 0%. Received a commendation and promotion from the Area Senior Director. Show less

    • Motorola mobility (a lenovo company)

      Oct 2005 - Aug 2012

Worked with clients in various locations, including three months in Chicago, USA (USC, Alltel; six months in San Diego, USA (Cricket, MetroPCS), and three months in Wiesbaden, Germany (Vodafone).• Sold 10M phones (Motorola VE240) to Cricket, a US wireless provider. In its attempt to deliver a low-cost phone, Motorola used framework code purchased from a third-party which contained several bugs, and Cricket was frustrated with the product. Usually, my superior would resolve this, but as he was recovering from a car crash, I assumed this responsibility. Reverted internally and worked with the third-party framework developers to resolve Cricket’s concerns. After three months of hard work, they were satisfied with the product and kept their order of 10M phones.• Visited Vodafone in Germany, and acted as liaison between the carrier and our product team in Brazil. By travelling to meet them in-person, concerns were rectified more quickly and the project was completed one month ahead of schedule. ¬¬ Show less • Worked as a senior developer and file system expert in Motorola phones before launch of Android.• Improved file system for Motorola K1m and RAZR V3m phones. Existing file system was slow and could not support SD cards (which were then coming into use). Adapted software to make file systems run three times faster. Received a prize and recognition from the senior director of product area.• Created a group of file system experts to work across all phones being developed in Brazil to guarantee performance improvements and increase of quality. Became leader of this group. Show less

Brazil was chosen as the location for a team tasked with expanding camera development. Despite Brazil’s status as a developing country, we created a research cell as modern as Motorola’s Chicago laboratory, and became the most equipped and capable at camera R&D in Latin America. This allowed Eldorado to market its capabilities in imaging, and as a result, the CEO invited me to join the company’s elite executive team to help with broader strategic and innovation planning.• Client satisfaction led to increased investment, as the program more than doubled in size and budget since its launch (from $2M to $5M).• Standardized tests by ensuring each test was logged onto a wiki page, thus creating a knowledge base which documented the entire customer test environment.• Automated tests using Python and aggregated tests under a common test automation system. This reduced time spent running and processing tests by two-thirds, helped Motorola save money in lab personnel, and increased morale by removing daily repetitive tasks.• Created an advanced cell for FOCUS area, creating a mechanic test system (CAF) that can perform evaluations overnight. This automated execution and results / report processing. Show less Creation of a Power Management Team for MotorolaFormation of a team to analyze battery logs generated by Motorola smartphones during validation phase. Created a process to interpret the huge array of data and present a streamlined analysis on each phone and bug fix. In recognition of strong performance, Motorola expanded our remit to cover battery analysis not just for Latin America, but the whole world.• Existing software was full of bugs and could only test one phone at a time. Proposed a new scalable, automated software system that could run day and night, and led the project team that implemented it. It could test five phones at a time, and thus we increased productivity five-fold.• This initiative meant Eldorado gained Motorola’s loyalty for all battery and lab analyses, creating a long-lasting partnership where we were responsible for replicating the battery system in China. This is now a C$3M/yr project. Show less During This time was Manager of two major projects : • Creation of a team tasked with delivery of smartphone code to Motorola Brazil.Staff were laid off after Google’s acquisition of Motorola, which meant the company was without expertise on legal certifications needed to sell products in Brazil. This became an urgent project, as the team was needed in order for products to be sold. Used previous experience as a Motorola team leader to create job descriptions and hired as many talents as possible, as quickly as possible. The team was able to pick up the pace and started delivering phones with success.Motorola realized they could use Instituto de Pesquisas Eldorado as a reliable partner to deliver product without increasing Motorola headcount. The project size grew from $10M to $20M after one year. • Deliver the Latin America specific software for the Motorola MotoE, MotoG phones.Tasked with the first end-to-end product to be executed outside Motorola premises. The challenge was to create and replicate the same internal Motorola environment in an outside organization, which required a great deal of negotiation between several groups. Project success secured Motorola as a customer and they increased investment in the project from $10M to $20M Show less
