      The Graduate School for Production Ecology & Resource Conservation (PE&RC) and Wageningen School of Social Sciences (WASS) organized a course with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) on smallholder engagement in seed systems. The course involved a review and critical analysis of 8 cases of seed systems, globally, and their intentional engagement with smallholder farmers.

      World food systems summer school agroecology and sustainable agriculture 4 ects

      In January, the WFSC, in partnership with YAMSYS and the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d’Ivoire (CSRS), ran their 7th summer school, this time in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire. Mixed-country-discipline participation i.e. 26 participants from 14 countries and 19 disciplines was realized. The theme of the course was “Food Systems in Transition” while using the West African context as a springboard to explore broader food system challenges globally.

I lead the collation of up-to-date reference material that allows the students to immerse themselves in current core issues. The intention is always to have them appreciate while comparing their country’s situation in relation to organic agriculture across the world. AICCRA on the other hand o strengthen the capacity of targeted CCAFS (CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security) partners and stakeholders in IDA-eligible countries in Africa. The SeEdQUAL Initiative aims to support the delivery of seed of improved climate-resilient, market-preferred and nutritious varieties of priority crops, embodying a high rate of genetic gain to farmers, ensuring equitable access for women and other disadvantaged groups.The AICCRA Project will endeavor to enhance access to climate information services and validated climate-smart agriculture technologies in IDA-eligible countries in Africa. Further, the S34D Project seeks to improve the functioning of national seed sectors in Feed the Future countries and in countries with resilience and emergency seed security programs. Show less
