    • Bruce Hall

      Mar 2017 - Mar 2018
      Sports Representative

In my capacity as sports representative, I liaised with ANU and other residential halls to help ensure the smooth running of the inter-college sports, as well as promote participation among Bruce Hall residents. I also took responsibility for both setting an example of positive sideline culture and calling out poor behaviour to encourage a healthy engagement with inter-hall sports. Beyond sports, I also actively supported the wider student leadership team in organising and executing a variety of events for residents throughout the year, including community-building and educational events. These events were carefully designed and run in order to meet the diverse needs of the residential community, including being disability and gender inclusive. Show less

      Senior Resident

Senior resident scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic performance and community service to the ANU halls of residence. It is a competitive award and provides exceptional opportunities for development of leadership skills within a diverse residential community. Collaborating with a team with other SRs, I worked to ensure the wellbeing of our residents and provide pastoral care where needed. This ranged from providing academic advice to being a first responder in mental health crises or emergencies. In my capacity as an SR, I also helped collaboratively develop solutions to problems arising in the residential community around mental health, physical well-being, and gender and sexuality advocacy. Speaker

Batyr is a youth-led mental health education and advocacy organization that delivers mental-health awareness programs for high school and university students across Australia. Within the Canberra team I played a key role in these programs by delivering an account of my lived experience with mental ill-health in a safe and informative manner. In this role, I travelled to local schools and universities and shared my journey to managing my mental health effectively to students in order to help challenge the stigma surrounding mental ill-health and to promote help-seeking behaviours.
