  My continuous formal and informal market research activities provide the underpinning for all publishing activity. The main activity, however, is that of commissioning. In consultation with the Publishing Manager, I identify publishing ideas, develop project profiles, identify authors, commission them and guide them through the writing process until the submission of a publishable manuscript (MS). This involves constant review towards the development of quality content and meeting of set deadlines. The publishable manuscript is then handed over to the editor.Another responsibility is to supervise in-house and freelance editors, to scrutinize their work to ensure editorial standards are being maintained, to keep them informed of developments in the publishing programme, etc, and to liaise closely with them so I am aware at all times of what is happening with each project – particularly the challenges – through to bound copy stage.
