  My administrative role was to represent migrant students and ensure they are received the academic support they need to succeed in Manatee County. I worked with parents, schools, students, and organizations to facilitate communication between the groups and to help the migrant families feel integrated into Manatee County for the time they are with us. Migrants are an essential part of the American economy and backbone to our agricultural success, and they are often overlooked. I was honored to be given the opportunity to support migrant students to help be a catalyst for ending the cycle of poverty for this underserved group of people. I took over the program as the acting coordinator when he was moved to a school as an Assistant Principal. I used my own hometown knowledge and networked to develop a community outreach and services fair for the migrant population. I established the after school program for students and a summer curriculum for the science summer camp program. I led a group of students to Washington, DC for CloseUp - a week-long educational program. Show less
