Responsible for writing code and defining algorithms and techniques for reading unique order configuration after bootstrapping a machine, have it attach to a network, validate the order via a decision matrix using database information, followed by downloading all necessary components and setting up the system so that the end result is a fully functional software stack on the local hard disk of the machine that is ready for a first customer experience. The factory network environments are mission critical for the success of the business and must remain 100% available and reliable at all times. In this roll I was also an influencer on the network architecture and security as it grew exponentially. Show less Reliability testing and analysis of all newly introducing products – system, peripheral, and display. Test and monitor through operational temperature range, shock and vibration, packaging and drop testing. Troubleshooting and failure analysis. Circuit analysis and capture of corer case failure modes and provide design recommendations for corrective action. Calculate mean time between failure on computer systems based on parts selection. Thermal engineering for solutions to keep components within maximum temperature range throughout the operational temperature range of the system. Analyze field failures and call logs to identify any failure trends in shipping product lines, identify cause and provide actionable solution options. Show less

Managed cross functional, globally distributed team of 60 plus contributors. Designed, defined architecture, and managed cross-functional engineering, procurement, and IT design, development, and implementation of OEM Activation 3.0 (OA3). An invasive Microsoft operating system licensing and activation technology introduced with Windows 8 for which I also hold a patent. . Including the development for the code to support procurement in electronically ordering the licenses, to finance royalty accounting, to interaction with BIOS on each computer system licensed during manufacturing in global ODM factories, and all databases and IT systems necessary to support the delivery, transformation, collection, and storing the information for service and reporting purposes. This program was one of my many responsibilities, spanning 18 months, involved developers across the globe, and contributed over $160M in profit when completed successfully on schedule. Concurrently I performed the business and technical development for a deployment to Microsoft earning an additional $68M in incremental sales as well as numerous other programs. Championed and drove the conversion of systems to Universal Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) BIOS.Interpretation of legal and contractual requirements into technical deliverables and managed compliance. Engineering representative to Dell’s User Experience team responsible for driving ongoing improvements from ongoing customer studies and direct engagements. Show less Evaluated emerging software technologies for suitability for addition to Dell’s software portfolio. Worked with internal and 3rd party developers to mature products for implementation. Mentored engineers within the software community. Analyzed products features for future enhancement and performance. Provided technical guidance to management and marketing. Managed the testing and evaluation of all device drivers and software application performance of products shipped by Dell and drove redesign and reimplementation of products to meet boot and runtime performance objectives across all of Dell’s products. Developed in conjunction with Microsoft and device manufacturers’ proximity sensor technology for tablet computer systems. This effort culminated in standardized APIs for sensor devices and was contributed to and formalized into the UEFI standard. Show less Operating system development, manufacturability, and customization.Responsible for the development of processes and procedures for automated deployment of operating systems, device drivers, and applications on Windows Vista and Windows 7 to each computer system being manufactured in all Dell and ODM factories building Dell products worldwide. Responsible for working with marketing and usability to define what the end product should look like when the customer sees it. Lead a small team in a 2 year effort in partnership with Microsoft to pioneer the features and functions of a manufacturing OS shell which culminated into WinPE (Windows Pre-install Environment).
