  I worked on projects with small business and local women's groups in the rural areas throughout Zimbabwe. My task was to interview as many women and small business owners as I could, with my facilitation and interpreter team, and generate reports to help determine whether the funding we were providing through CARE and the Canadian government was being well utilized and whether there were discernible indicators being met in terms of mental, social and physical health. I presented these reports to my supervisor and country director with recommendations on next steps for our programming. Show less

  I co-created this role within the team I was leading because I saw a need for greater organizational capacity development. I was well suited for this role because I am skilled at identifying and optimizing synergies in approach and practice across different departments, work groups and organizations.My responsibilities included:- Developing and leading a change management initiative for GMF (which was ramped up with great emphasis, of course, when the pandemic began)- Devising a coordinated ‘road map’ of the tools and tactics we used in our departmental programming, including consistent metrics. I wanted to tap into more innovative practices, networks and technologies and adapt them more readily to our programming in a consistent and efficient manner. - Better mobilization and engagement strategies supported through web-based tools, technology and leading edge practices in learning design and user experience.- Building skills enhancement training for our GMF-specific municipal audience while simultaneously considering the design of such programming within FCM (for FCM staff). - I developed a GMF Learning Strategy which I proposed scaling up to the FCM-wide level as there was a gap in how we learn, manage, retain, train/onboard, and share knowledge as an organization. I became the champion of this Learning Strategy and was able to guide other departments at FCM in creating their own strategies and tactics.- Focusing on FCM’s importance as a convener of networks through our peer learning activities. Develop stronger networks and partnerships in key focus areas for GMF, as well as with provincial and territorial associations. Better connect our networks of practitioners in a more directed way - and maintain those connections from activity to activity, year to year (cohorts, alumni, etc.).- Developing stronger linkages with other FCM units and departments in support of learning design and delivery. Show less In this role, I was seconded to:- Guide and oversee development of GMF knowledge services (KS) activities and staff, including the hiring and overall management of a team of 15 high functioning team members.- Represent GMF Knowledge Services and FCM in high priority seminars, conferences, events and meetings with municipal officials and other key stakeholders.- Responsible for KS budget and strategic planning in order to ensure activities were strategically designed and implemented to achieve desired results.- Reported to and ensured alignment with strategic direction of the Director and Senior Management team.- Identified and analyzed needs, trends and opportunities in order to continually improve the overall effectiveness of knowledge services initiatives.- Liaised with key internal stakeholders across FCM to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to KS initiatives and processes.- Established and maintained collaborative relationships with external stakeholders and networks to ensure relevancy of program approaches and continual sharing of knowledge and information on KS related activities and stakeholder needs. Show less I designed and delivered learning activities alongside a team that I coached and mentored. I managed people, work plans, budgets, activities and strategy. Our activities included a major national sustainability conference (FCM Sustainable Communities Conference), awards and recognition programming (FCM Sustainable Communities Awards), online learning/training programs (a full suite of webinar programming), network/cohort development in key sectors of activity (brownfields, climate change, asset management), knowledge resource development in a number of sectors of influence for a municipal government audience. My role involved deep collaboration, excellent written and verbal communication skills, facilitation, leadership and creative problem-solving. Show less I was seconded for 1.5 years to our international programs department to work on knowledge management strategies and toolkits in collaboration with our Canadian and international teams across Latin America, Africa and Asia. I developed training programs, webinars, case studies, toolkits and knowledge resources focused on local economic development. I monitored and reported on our initiatives.
