  Engineering Intern in Power Electronics & Automation Department – NLC MINE 1During my internship at NLC MINE 1, I gained hands-on experience in the power electronics and automation systems used in large-scale lignite excavation and transmission processes. I learned the fundamentals of the mining operation, including how lignite is excavated and transported efficiently.Key Technical Contributions:SCR (Silicon-Controlled Rectifier) and IGBT (Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor) Handling for 100kW Variable Frequency Drive (VFD):I worked with SCRs and IGBTs, critical components in high-power applications for switching and control in VFDs. Specifically, I handled a 100kW VFD, ensuring proper operation in regulating motor speeds for equipment used in mining operations. The SCRs provided reliable control of high power, while the IGBTs allowed for faster switching, improving the efficiency and performance of the VFD system.Development of a Test Bench for SCR Testing:I designed and developed a dedicated test bench for SCR evaluation. This test bench was crucial for ensuring the operational integrity and performance of SCRs before their deployment in real-world applications. The setup allowed for the testing of various parameters such as gate triggering, forward voltage drop, and reverse blocking, ensuring the reliability of these components under different load conditions.Through this internship, I deepened my knowledge of industrial automation, power electronics, and their integration into mining operations, contributing to both hands-on technical skills and a better understanding of large-scale industrial processes.
