ISA is a fantastic University!During my year in the Student Association I was responsible for gathering sponsorship's for AEISA activities; this included all sporting events and sporting teams; but also events like the Student week. It was a very fulfilling time as I had to deal with all kinds of situations and I made good friends for life.Being part of Tunassa really transformed my years in ISA in one the best times of my life. I learned music (how play an instrument and how to sing) and how to perform in public; but the most important is that I have learn how to be part of a group and made friends for life. Oct 2004 - Feb 2005
      Telemarketing operator (part-time)

As a telephone sales executive I was expected to sell the products and services for clients of Pluricall by calling prospective clients. I worked within a team of other sales executives where targets and strategies were set by the team supervisor. This job experience was good because it prepared me for the unexpected and prepared me for in the sales lingo is defined as: cold call

    • El corte ingles

      Oct 2004 - Jul 2007
      Retail sales assistant (part-time)

In El Corte Ingles everything single task is done thinking about costumer service. The costumer is always wright. I directed sales ensuring that the costumers needs and quality standards were always met. Even being a part-timer, I gathered my regular costumers that always will want to be advised by me. My work was commission based and I always met my not only professional targets but my personal ones. I made sure that even working part-time I had a comprehensive knowledge of all products in my section (Sport shoes & textile) but also other sections, such as Cycling gear and the Cycling section in general, Tennis, Golf, Snowboard, Horse Ridding, etc.. As a creative person I used to love doing the merchandising and stock display and I will be asked to do it regularly by my managers. I did all the functions implied on the retail sales assistant role: -Handled cash, including drops as well as closing off the store; -Analysed stock and take variance reports;-Handled and resolved customer complaints and dealt with returns of faulty merchandise; -Conducted sales always insuring that the costumers needs were met. Grupo Valouro (Valouro Group) or simply Valouro, is one of the largest economic groups in Portuguese agrobusiness industry and the biggest in the poultry sector. With a portfolio of leading brands in poultry and animal feeds, including Rações Valouro, Avibom, Kilom and Pinto Valouro it is a completely vertically integrated poultry company that operates:Feed Mill – producing feed for breeders and meat chickensBreeding Farms – producing fertile eggsHatchery – producing day-old chicksGrowing Farms – producing the end product i.e. chicken meatProcessing Plant – to process and market chicken meatVeterinary ServicesTransportMy internship was in Pinto Valouro, breeding farms and hatchery. My project focused on The Application of the Principles of HACCP to a Poultry Breeding Company. In my 6 months I observed and worked in all the sites of the farm, from the cleaning and disinfection of all the facilities, to the vaccination and lab collections as well as analysis of the breeding, to the hatchery and sexing of the birds. It was a fantastic experience, in a model poultry breeding company that takes the expression from "Farm to Fork" to another level. Show less

    • Alltech

      Sept 2007 - Nov 2015

My research in Alltech focuses in new product technologies to improve the health and performance of animals through natural nutrition and scientific innovation. The team of Scientists based in Dunboyne in Alltech's European Bioscience Centre specialises in biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics. All members of the team will touch basis with several disciplines in their research projects. I am primarily involved in developing, conducting and analyzing experiments with specific interests and applications for our industry planned in conjunction with my Research Director. I try to actively demonstrate creative and original thinking in developing innovative solutions for the animal production industry and I try to link my research technology platform and the application of those technologies into animal nutrition. Other responsibilities include:- Prepare protocols, analyse data, and produce reports on experiments - Maintain accurate records for each research project - Maintain an up to date awareness of all R&D activities in the animal sector and other related sectors through literature review and industry and academic networking- Write scientific papers- Present relevant scientific work at internal and external meetings- Do a limited amount of travelling world-wide representing Alltech As an Alltech employee I am expected to engage in other activities within the Company, within the last year, I actively participated and was part of the Team for two Alltech’s International Craft Brews and Food Fairs and Alltech’s Global 500 events (Dublin). This Summer I have the exciting opportunity to be part of the team working in the Alltech FEI World Equestrian GamesTM 2014 in Normandy, France (This 23rd of August to 7th of September). I will be one of the hostesses in the Equispher Pavilion in Deauville, a sensory and educational pavilion where people can see the world from a horse's perspective. Show less Optimisation of phytase production by Aspergillus niger using solid state fermentationMy project objectives were as follows:1. Stabilise the strain through optimisation of: Slant media formulation and growth conditions;2. Optimisation of the liquid seed media through: Assessment of the effects of viscosity; Carbon source optimisation; Nitrogen source optimisation; General growth conditions;3. Solid state fermentation optimisation: Assess and compare different substrates; Study the effect of carbon source supplementation; Nitrogen source supplementation; Optimisation of growth conditions;4. Assess the thermostability of the enzyme;5. Examine the proteolytic stability of the enzyme using in vitro simulated gastro-intestinal digestion;6. Determine the stability of the enzyme on ruminal fluid. In addition to the research carried out for the achievement of my M.Sc. project I have also executedroutine assays and development or improvement of colourimetric assays for numerous enzymes. My research in Teagasc has been dedicated to the Project: ReValueProtein (http://www.revalueprotein.com/)ReValueProtein is a nationally funded research project bringing together a multidisciplinary team to support innovation in the Irish meat Industry. The main focus of my research in the ReValueProtein Project is to recover high value functional proteins from a selected range of meat co-products. I am primarily involved in developing, conducting and analysing hydrolysis experiments with view of downstream and scale-up the selected processes. I work closely with the Project Manager and Research Officer and report to the Project Coordinator. Some of the main responsibilities include(d):• To develop and complete the screening hydrolysis process for the selected product lines with commercially available food grade enzymes • To assist with sample collection, stabilisation and downstream processing with a view to extracting functional or bioactive protein extract. • To characterise the extracted product (protein, peptides) using methods such as SDS-PAGE and HPLC (SEC);• To analyse product potential bioactivity by means of developing in vitro antioxidant assays and antimicrobial assays as well as collaborating with “in vivo” cell culture assays• To contribute to optimise parameters for efficient protein recovery/extraction scale-up• To evaluate the 5L bioreactor operating parameters in 100L pilot-scale bioreactor• To complete ultrafiltration process developed in the lab using the pilot-scale Sartojet system• To complete Post processing handling of the product pilot-scale evaporation and spray-drying• During this project I have collaborated with several research scientists and post graduate students as well as liaised and collaborated with project partners Show less
