  Prior to its merger with the Hoosier Environmental Council (HEC) in 2011, the Legal Environmental Aid Foundation (LEAF) was Indiana's only non-profit solely dedicated to providing pro bono legal services to environmental activists, grass roots groups and organizations fighting to protect Indiana's natural resources and seeking environmental justice in the state. LEAF's mission continues as part of HEC, Indiana's largest environmental advocacy organization.

  * Represent Indiana families, community groups and NGOs in environmental citizen suits, permit appeals, zoning and land use matters, and toxic tort cases in federal and state courts, administrative tribunals and before local planning and zoning boards;* Pursue HEC’s legislative and rule-making priorities before the Indiana General Assembly and Environmental Rules Board;* Develop and implement litigation and policy strategies to further HEC’s program initiatives in sustainable agriculture, water and wilderness protection, and environmental justice; * Supervise the work of associate attorneys, law clerks, and support staff and collaborate with HEC’s non-legal staff including policy directors, the development team, and communications/outreach personnel;* Foster relationships with community groups, partner organizations, civic leaders, academic allies, environmental consultants and experts, lawmakers, regulators, co-counsel, and clients; * Write policy papers, citizen advocacy guides, website content, and other educational materials;* Public speaking at professional and academic conferences, CLEs, law school symposia, community events, and HEC sponsored events;* Provide legal counsel to HEC’s Executive Director and Board on non-profit governance and employment matters.
