      Jan 2011 - Apr 2011
      Engineering Assistant

      • Wrote technical and informative reports that were sent out to clients, dealing with environmental engineering projects, from chemical spills to heavy metal clean up• Field work included: sampling of contaminated groundwater, the servicing and repairing of a air stripper responsible for removing volatile organic compounds from groundwater under site• Created detailed maps and figures using Geographic Information Systems technology• Trained a junior co-op student so they could fill my position after I returned to school Show less

    • Woodbridge

      Sept 2011 - Dec 2011
      Materials Research Engineer Intern

      • Designed and formulated polyurethane insulation spray foam for industrial and commercial uses• Ran multiple lab tests on the polyurethane insulation, finding its structural strength, acclimatized stability, flammability, and insulating properties• Gained exposure with FTIR analysis, ran titrations, studied multiple formulations, testing different polyether/polyesters, surfactants, amine catalysts and many other chemical additives.• Was present for the initial studies up to the sales of the final formulation of the first product, and the subsequent scaling up of production as the product demand grew. • Jacobs

      May 2012 - Aug 2012
      Process Engineer Intern

Project Assignment: SAGD Facility, Canadian Natural Resources Limited – Northern AB• On a team of process engineers responsible for the design of three 40,000 BPD SAGD facilities all in separate stages of their design (Design Basis Memoranda, Detailed Design & Construction)• Both constructed and carried out Aspen HYSYS simulations for the various sections of the SAGD central processing facility. Mainly focused on the Oil Treating section of the facilities.• Investigated all scenarios which would result in overpressure of the vessels/units in the central processing facility. Calculated relief load requirements for all relevant cases including both single and two phase relief. Specified relief orifice sizes for process units in the facility.• Carried out analysis & study on speed of closing main control valves and the pressure shock waves resulting from this sudden closure• Assembled/Constructed alarm list documentation (Safe-guarding trip alarms) • Produced process engineering deliverables including PFD’s, heat and material balances, design pressure/design temperature diagrams, P&ID’s, and line list documentation Show less

    • Jacobs

      Jan 2013 - Apr 2013
      Process Engineer Intern

Project Assignment: Ethylene & Polyethylene Plant, Nova Chemicals – Joffre, AB• Continuous process improvement and Turn-around projects to maintain and upkeep an already existing Ethylene & Polyethylene Plant.• Sized an additional reboiler required in parallel with an existing ethane-ethylene splitter reboiler to increase reboiler duty; a study found decreasing production due to fouling on existing reboiler • Main assignment was a pressure safety valves study on one of the Ethylene plants for high-pressure vessels, exchangers, steam turbines, pumps, distillation columns, low-pressure tanks, and many other units. Experienced in iPRSM; software for setting up overpressure systems and calculating the relief loads and relief orifices necessary to relieve those loads.• Sized single phase and two phase lines, vessels, pumps, and exchangers Show less

    • Tundra Oil & Gas

      Sept 2013 - Dec 2013
      Reservoir & Exploitation Engineer Intern

      • Used decline analysis and RTA techniques on 750+ vertical oil wells in order to gain an understanding of the reservoir and use that knowledge to predict oil production for the newer horizontal multi-staged hydraulically fractured wells.• Built and executed Excel macros to perform analysis on a large sample size of oil wells.• Created a set of type curves based on flow regime specific oil production profiles which could then be used to calculate present value of the wells in the process of bringing new locations forward for technical approval by the board.• Devised and implemented a study comparing different well completion styles and pump-off techniques and how the oil production is affected. • Experience with both primary and secondary oil recovery techniques; including infill/down-spacing, water flooding, and CO2 flooding Show less

    • Geosyntec Consultants

      May 2014 - Aug 2015
      Process Engineer Intern

Involved in multiple environmental engineering related projects including designing and costing of a groundwater remediation pump and treat system, in-situ self-sustained combustion soil remediation, stormwater treatment/management, and industrial wastewater treatment. • Designed and optimized the operation of anaerobic digesters, facultative lagoons, pH adjust systems, BOD, TSS and VS reduction programs, oil and grease removal. • Spearheaded the design of an industrial wastewater treatment system in order to remove all reliance from the city's sewer system. Reviewed and designed the use of all of the following technologies: Membrane Bioreactor (MBR), Moving Bed Bioreactor (MBBR), struvite formation for phosphorus removal, Annamox for nitrogen bio-removal, Bardenpho nitrification/denitrification • Ran economic analysis on the heating of a digester lagoon where I designed a heat loss model to predict the heat requirement throughout the year and evaluated several options to raise the temperature of the lagoon in the cold winter months Show less
