My main duties include supporting the core network engineering team in:Designing and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of the County’s networks. Installing, configuring and supporting network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, telephony systems, WAN accelerators, DNS and DHCP. Securing networks through best practices, implementing security protocols (SSL, SFTP, VPNs), and proactively monitoring threats.Providing specifications of network equipment needed to address the County’s network infrastructure needs and working with subcontractors involved with network installation. In this dual role, I am manage the County's core revenue system and support its entire IT infrastructure at its main Data centre. My role revolves around: Customer Support and Infrastructure Management, Database Management and Optimization, and Security operations.So far in this role, some of the accomplishments I've been able to achieve are:Helped the County transition to a modern data warehouse, implementing Amazon Redshift and developing Python scripts for automated ETL processes, reducing data processing time by 30%.Acted as a knowledge-sharing resource, documented best practices and contributed to the creation of the first-ever County’s ICT policy for future reference.Developed and delivered a training program for County employees on cybersecurity best practices, significantly decreasing phishing attacks.Spearheaded the first data resilience program within the County by implementing comprehensive disaster recovery plans, implementing advanced data protection protocols, and putting measures in place that make sure regular backups are done and procedures are restored frequently which has come to significantly reduce the risk of data loss.Implemented security improvements like firewall and IDS configurations, collaborated with teams to identify and rectify vulnerabilities through security audits, and established a proactive threat mitigation approach.
