    • KCSU - King's College Student Union

      Sept 2016 - Mar 2019

I strongly believe that climate change is one of the greatest challenges currently facing humanity at the present moment, and am determined to do anything I can to contribute to a resistance against climate change. Until just a few weeks ago, the University of Cambridge and its constituent colleges held millions of pounds in investments in fossil fuels, and I spent a good deal of time during my undergraduate degree trying to persuade King’s College to cease such investments. In this role, I also helped to organise the first university-wide Green Week, instituted a Meat Free Mondays dinner each week in the college’s cafeteria, held the college to account on its own environmental policies by organising the appointment of a Green Fellow, and established the role of KCSU Education Officer. Box Office Assistant

This role largely consisted in my first year on the job of answering phone calls (customer enquiries and ticket bookings), as well as selling tickets in person in the Fringe Box Office. In my second year on the job, I was promoted to the Friends of the Fringe Box Office, which is for the exclusive use of members of a subscription scheme which offers two for one offers on tickets across the festival. Both positions involved working with a team of more than fifty colleagues, and I really enjoyed being in a workplace which consisted of a community of people from all around the world, all working together to ensure the smooth running of the festival and to raise money for the Fringe Society, a registered charity. As well as paying for the upkeep of the Box Office and the administration of the festival, donations to the Fringe Society fund initiatives such as free and discounted tickets to shows for local children from disadvantaged backgrounds and improved access for people with a range of disabilities, including measures such as the installing of Changing Places accessible toilets around the city, and making Sensory Backpacks for autistic children and adults available free of charge. I solicited donations from customers of more than two thousand pounds during 2017 and 2018, and it has been extremely rewarding to hear from those who use these services on social media, in news media and in person how helpful and enjoyable the services which the Fringe Society provides are. Customer Services Assistant

After working over the course of two summers as a sales assistant, selling tickets over the phone and in person, I was promoted to the position of Customer Services Assistant. This increased my responsibilities significantly, and involved responding to more complex customer enquiries and complaints in person, over the phone, and via email and social media. I was also tasked with contacting customers in the event of a change to or cancellation of a show which they had booked tickets for. This promotion also meant that I was a member of the Access Bookings team, processing bookings and enquiries from people with a range of accessibility needs over the phone, in person and via email. Working as a Customer Services Assistant could sometimes be quite hectic, but I do enjoy working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment such as this. Moreover, there were extremely rewarding elements to the role, and I was glad to be able to help customers who were sometimes in extremely difficult situations. I was extremely proud of my team when we received the honour of being named the winners of the Euan’s Guide Hello Award. Euan’s Guide is a website which allows people with disabilities to upload and consult reviews of the accessibility of shops, restaurants, cafes, and other businesses and institutions open to the public. This award ‘is designed to recognise a venue (at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe) that created a warm welcome for all of its visitors’. Show less

      Teaching Assistant

I assisted secondary school students with special educational needs in carrying out their schoolwork. In this role, I worked closely with pupils in one-to-one, small class, and mainstream settings. Through maintaining good communication and close working relationships with students, teachers, and fellow support staff, I ensured excellent support for the students I work with across subjects, year groups, and ability levels.

      Visitor Services

In this role, I worked across various major venues in the capital on a casual basis in a range of front-of-house roles. These included the Science Museum, the Horniman Museum and Gardens, Kew Gardens, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Southbank Centre. Working across such a wide range of venues required excellent organisation and attention to detail. This work also familiarised me with key concerns and procedures across the industry with regards to visitor experience, including customer service, health and safety, safeguarding, and coronavirus.
