Studying the Policy and Media Relationship with Ocean Acidification - Investigated the relationship of how media (major newspapers) impacts ocean acidification policy on a local, state, and national levels in the US- Identified and established key binary questions to apply to the research to look into policy needs/wants, laws, sources of scientific information in media, political sources, and admittance to anthropogenic carbon. - Evaluated over 200 major state newspaper articles based on the binary questions.- Analyzed the relationship given the results to the binary questions to identify a correlation between ocean acidification policy and the media in the United States. Show less Focused Research on Hood Canal Washington and the biological, chemical, and physical properties related to the hypoxic conditions and pteropod respiration present.- Analyzed collected data (nutrients, carbonate, respiration, and basic CTD samples) from Hood Canal with various programs and software including MATLAB, ODV, and Excel.- Evaluated and derived carbonate data from given nutrients and water properties.- Identified trends in temperature, aragonite saturation, and respiration of pteropods in Hood Canal.- Critiqued previous papers and compared water properties and habitats from water in Hood Canal to those in written articles. Show less Researching Eddie Structures and Trends at 26N with the Continental Shelf- Coded and calculated statistical data and spatial structure on mesoscaled eddies in Matlab based on mooring and eddy data.- Created new scripts in Matlab to calculate if there were significant trends between anticyclonic and cyclonic eddy’s spatial structure with normalized radiuses. - Identified key trends of mesoscale eddies at 26 N based on large data sets from the Chelton Track’s (OSU) database. - Created short research paper based on results, conclusions, and potential future work. Show less - Advised and communicated to incoming freshman of the University of Washington on classes, stress management, time management, studying habits, other key resources, and needs for college students. - Provided support for students by sharing own personal experience, and working one on one with students.- Strengthened personal communication and public speaking skills- Facilitated transitioning students from various and diverse backgrounds to University of Washington standards and expectations- Developed lesson plans and class material necessary for incoming students- Promoted higher education and resources for students to easily transition into college- Built and strengthened a new community in class Show less

      Sept 2016 - Sept 2018

      - Created an online mapping tool for policy-makers, marine scientists, and the public to have a data and information resource on ocean acidification in the entire Salish Sea. This online mapping tool was created in ArcGIS. - Developed policy and technical recommendations to address ocean acidification and collaboration in the Salish Sea. - Conducted over 10 interviews, analytic deliberation groups, and created 3 online surveys to gather inputs of marine stakeholders. This data collection process required communicating technical and scientific information to a wide audience. Show less

    • The Nature Conservancy

      Sept 2018 - Sept 2019
Washington Sea Grant Marine Policy Fellow

Connecting people to nature has been a guiding principle in the work I've done as a fellow. At the Nature Conservancy, I have worked to co-create communication and resource tools such as the Washington Coastal Resilience Project case study atlas, coastal hazards introductions, develop curriculum, project manage and co-create the Floodplain by Design's Tribal Engagement Toolkit, shellfish aquaculture in Washington, and learn and facilitate with communities over the transboundary region of WA, BC, and South East Alaska. These unique opportunities have required skills to communicate to a wide variety of communities and stakeholders, create systems change through social methods, engage and have an understanding with diverse environmental and political topics, and project organization. • Triangle Associates, Inc.

      Sept 2019 - Nov 2020
      Public Policy Project Associate

At Triangle, I work at the policy, science, and community nexus. Through the methods of facilitation, strategic development, and stakeholder outreach, I support systems change within natural resources topics. At Triangle, I have worked on the Governor's Statewide Salmon Strategy Update, Salmon Recovery Network, Seattle City Light Skagit Relicensing Project, and many more. All of these projects have required a uniquely crafted approach, engaging and listening to stakeholders, and identifying strategies to collaboratively approach the given challenge. Show less
