  In November 2013 I began work at Citadel within the Fund Research team analysing, researching and monitoring South African hedge funds within two fund of funds. While within this role I also took on the research, analysis and monitoring of local long only equity and property funds which forms part of our SA Equity fund of funds. My responsibilities included:Staying abreast of financial news and reporting economic feedback at our weekly market meetingsPerforming due diligences on potential new fundsMeeting managers to monitor their portfolios in monitoring and feedback meetingsReport on both the fund of funds and underlying funds in various forms including fund factsheets, quarterly reports and feedback sessions with Citadel’s portfolio managersPerforming quantitative analysis on a continuous basis to ensure that the funds invested in (and monitored) suit the requirements of Citadel’s portfolio managers.   As I took on my masters the opportunity arose to lecture at the University of Cape Town. At first the subject matter centred on derivatives as a senior lecturer was away. I lectured third and fourth year students on derivatives as well as fourth year students on hedge funds. The content came naturally to me from my work on hedge funds at Citadel and the material I had to study as part of the CFA material. I had really good feedback on my lecturing and was asked to return in 2018 for the derivative section as well as portfolio theory (due to a sabbatical) and again received very good feedback. It is definitely something I will continue to do when the university requires an extra hand (and work permitting). Teaching is a passion of mine (my parents were teachers) so it is something I want to continue to do as I get more experience as it is a way of sharing what I have learnt with our next generation of finance professionals.
